Brooke Davis is sitting in a nondescript room opposite Mark Chapman. He has visible stitches in his right eyebrow, and a band-aid covering more on his forehead as a result of his match with Serena Raine three days ago.
Brooke: We're a few days removed from the show now and, Mark, you've asked for this time to speak to the fans about what happened at Extreme Extravaganza...
Mark: Yeah, first off I want people to know that they don’t have to worry. I'm absolutely fine. What happened basically was... it was a huge anxiety attack. My body just shut down on me. There was some deep lying trauma there from many years ago, which Serena must have done her homework on, so kudos to her on that. The direct attack on my chest just triggered something and basically my brain went into fight, flight or freeze mode. I couldn't fight in that particular moment, I couldn't get away physically... I was trapped, and my brain just said, 'nope, we're not being here for this.'
Brooke: I'm sure that will ease a lot of people's worries. So, no big or lasting injuries on the back of it?
Mark: No, other than a few stitches and a bruised ego, I'm all good.
Brooke: There was certainly some fear and concern in the arena when people realised you were out cold. Certainly when your daughter, Trinity, tried to get into the ring; her cries for Serena to stop...
Mark: Yeah... Yeah, that definitely wasn't something that I wanted her to witness. Trin was there all those years ago and I'm sure something probably triggered in her, too, whether she realised it or not.
Brooke: Forgive me for asking but, would you mind shedding some light on what actually caused that reaction?
Mark: I don't mind. I feel like I owe everybody an explanation, really. Thirteen years ago, almost to the day, there was an... incident, let's say, that resulted in me having what they call flail chest. If you don't know what that is, I'm not gonna describe it and I suggest you don't look it up. It's pretty gross and traumatic. Trinity actually saved my life that day, so I guess that's where her reaction came from. I'm just glad Roscoe was there to stop her getting into the ring.
Brooke: You seem to have formed a strong bond with Roscoe. He didn't hesitate to step in when it looked like Serena was going to take it too far.
Mark: Yeah, he's a good kid. I've spent a lot of time with him; coaching him, and obviously there's a personal connection there too. He wants to learn, he wants to be the best that he can be and he has so much potential to do that and to be the future of GEW. I thought it was incredibly brave of him to jump in like he did, especially considering what Serena has done to him in the past.
Brooke: You mentioned spending a lot of time coaching Roscoe... Previously it seemed like that was the case with Ryan McGrath, too. Just a few months ago it looked like you were kind of mentoring him and coaching him, especially through his issues with Scott Simmonds. Since then he seems to have turned his back on you and now his own father to align himself with these unknown guys who appear to be attacking people associated with him at random. What happened there?
Mark: Ryan is... complicated. You can't teach someone who doesn't wanna be taught, you can't help someone who doesn't wanna be helped, and that seems to be where he's at right now. I've tried, as have many others, to talk some sense into him but he doesn't wanna hear it. First it was Revvy and Lyra he turned on, then me, Roscoe, Kai, Cole and now Kam. He's cut all ties with Wildfire and that's fine. He's a grown man, he can do what he wants, but it's gonna come back to bite him. I tried to warn Kam a long time ago about what was happening but he didn't wanna know, and I get that, you know? Ryan is his son and you don't wanna expect the worst from your own kids. I know who and what is behind it all, but it's not my place to speak on it. I'm just gonna wash my hands of the whole situation and walk away from it. Ryan isn't my problem anymore. I'll let Kam deal with it.
Brooke: That sounds... pretty ominous, but OK. I guess we'll see how it all unfolds. So, with Extreme Extravaganza and your issues with Serena Raine hopefully behind us, what's next for you?
Mark: Honestly, I don’t know. At this moment in time I can't answer that. The match against Serena... It wasn't what people expected from me and it wasn't what I expected from myself so, I don't know what happens next. Clearly there are some issues that I still need to work on, and I can't give my all like I'd like to. I think I'm gonna just take some time away with my family, go on vacation, try to figure things out there and see what happens.
Brooke: Alright, well, I think I speak for everyone when I say that I hope we see you back soon, and thank you for your time.
Fade.
